In today’s healthcare landscape, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by terminology. At SVNA Home Assistance, we keep things simple.
As a non-medical, private duty care provider, we focus on supporting the everyday needs that help you live safely and comfortably. This includes personal care—such as assistance with bathing, dressing, and bathroom needs—as well as companionship and help around the home.
There are, however, certain services that fall outside of our scope. We do not perform medical tasks, such as cutting finger or toenails, handling or administering medications, or any procedures that require a licensed medical professional like a registered nurse.
If skilled medical care is needed, we recommend reaching out to Visiting Nurse and Hospice of Litchfield County. Their team can provide services such as skilled nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and more. To learn more, please visit: www.vnhlc.org
Every caregiver undergoes a comprehensive background check, drug screening, and reference verification. Each candidate is also personally interviewed by our Director to ensure the best possible match for every client. Random drug testing is conducted throughout employment for continued safety and accountability.
All aides complete an 8-hour new hire training program. This includes 6 hours of specialized, in-home caregiving education covering topics such as OSHA and Bloodborne Pathogen standards, condition-specific care, and essential caregiving skills.
All caregivers are SVNA Home Assistance employees—not contractors. We handle payroll directly and provide a W-2 at year-end, ensuring compliance and professionalism.
We offer a flat, competitive hourly rate that includes full client protection—no hidden surprises.
We cover liability insurance and workers’ compensation for all caregivers, and every aide is bonded and insured. This means clients are fully protected, with no risk of liability for on-the-job injuries or related expenses.
While we cannot guarantee coverage, we maintain a roster of 70+ caregivers to fill shifts in the event of a call-out before reaching out to families. If all options are exhausted and coverage is still needed, we offer a guaranteed coverage program at overtime rates (time-and-a-half for hours over 40).
Clients always reach a member of our internal team—not a third-party service. Our on-call staff are familiar with each client’s needs, ensuring responsive and informed support at any time.
